Ball State University. Friends are important in the lives of most people. Unfortunately, children with disabilities, particularly those with more severe disabilities, frequently face considerable problems in friendship development. In this article, we describe friendship development between children with and without disabilities and present strategies for teachers and school counselors working with children with disabilities in a broad range of settings.
